HYPNOSIS, ENERGY THERAPY AND THE NEW REVOLUTION
IN THERAPY
Today there is a quiet revolution occurring in the
therapy field. More than ever before, therapists are challenged to find
and use the correct healing tools which meet the needs of each individual
client.
Origins of Modern Therapy
Therapy has been gradually evolving since
the revolutionary theories and practices
of Sigmund Freud were developed at the beginning of the Twentieth Century.
Freud discovered the importance of the "unconscious" mind. He recognized
and built a therapeutic technique (i.e. the "talking cure") out of the
idea that our subconscious beliefs, motivations and emotional difficulties,
caused by trauma, can control and influence every aspect of our lives.
Freud abandoned hypnosis as it was used then, and theorized that talking
and free association alone would allow people to release the damaging residue
of traumatic events and they would then be enabled to lead healthy, fulfilling
lives. Today's talking therapies come directly out of Freud's formulations
of these basic techniques.
